The camper and staff and donor login is exactly the same. However,  the staff link takeS you to a specific landing page (dashboard). If you are or have been a camper and want to complete a staff application please notify us and we will update your record.  If you are a parent (a contact for a camper) and want to apply for staff  please contact us and we will update your record.  This is to avoid duplicate records. 

Add the following email addresses to your address book and mark as "safe sender" info@camphorizon.org, office@camphorizon.org, and mail@horizon.campwise.com (source of automatic emails).

The following online forms have your 2017-2018 information.

Staff Profile: Please update your shirt size and look at everything else. 
SA BGS: Background Screening - Verify the information. See when you fingerprints expire.
SA Program Skills: Look it over - the 2017-2018 info is there.
Camper Medical Form: Update this - you have to click "I have verified..." and sign.
Note: We preserved your 2018 essays but not the 2017 essays. A new essay has been added for 2019.

2019 UPDATES TO STAFF AGREEMENT

AFTER HOURS / OFF-SITE ACTIVITY The board of directors unanimously issued a resolution that staff or campers found outside of their cabins after curfew are subject to removal from the program and sent home. Leaving the property without approval is also grounds for dismissal.

 
CELL PHONES / INTERNET DEVICES  Cell phones were already prohibited in camper cabins. The board of directors issued a new resolution that cell phones / internet devices (video players, etc) are prohibited in staff housing as well except for very specific exceptions.  
 
SOCIAL MEDIA There is a long-standing policy that the staff will not post pictures of campers on social media or tag / identify campers on social media.
It is the desire of the board of directors that staff refrain from social media Sunday-Friday (during the camp week).  

HOW DOES STAFF APPLICATION WORK?  [When do I know that I am accepted?]
There are six major steps in the staff application process.

STEP ONE (applicant)
Complete all online forms. 
We cannot proceed until forms are complete including two valid references.

STEP TWO (committee)
We now have a committee that reviews the online portion of the applications.  They read the essays and the references.  Unless they put your application on hold - we proceed with sending you the signature forms. 

STEP THREE (office)
The signature forms cannot be printed until we have the online portion done.  They are sent via email unless you notify us that a printed copy is needed.  

STEP FOUR (applicant)
Mail the signed forms to Camp Horizon as soon as possible. You may scan and fax them, but the original affidavit must be notarized and kept on file at camp.

STEP FIVE (office)
We need the signed forms back to do the online background screening (BGS) and to schedule fingerprinting.  we enter the information into the Florida BGS Clearing House.  This assures that when fingerprinting is done there is a match associated with Camp Horizon and DCF (Division of Children and Families). This is required by law.

STEP SIX (new applicants)
Complete the online BGS form and fingerprinting if prints are not on file.

Note: Fingerprints are retained for five years.  Repeat staff do not need to be printed again. We can re-submit them for a new report. We can also resubmit the online form for most returning staff (if there are no major life changes).

STEP Seven (office & applicant)
Once we have all of the online and paper documents in hand and background screening completed we can confirm the week(s) of service.  

We work on staffing one day per week until the end of April, so do not expect instant responses.  For the first two weeks in May we will be working almost daily to confirm background screening documentation and downloading DCF Clearance letters.  We cannot and will not process new applications unless that position is needed and not filled. (Basically, no Junior or High School applications are accepted after May 1).

2019: The director will be off-site for the final two weeks of May.  We need to have all BGS completed prior to May 15.  The board of directors decided that we will set the maximum camper count to the level we can house with the number of staff recruited by May 1.  

For the camp staff, our summer begins the week of Memorial Day.  We have guests almost every day until our program begins.  We do not have time to process applications.  So, if you want to serve, apply by the end of April.

 

 
SUMMER STAFF 2019
A committee of both men and women has been assembled to review applications, read essays, and review recommendations.  The applicants will not be sent for background screening until the committee is satisfied that the applicant meets the qualifications for service.
 
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SERVICE (EVERYONE)
  • A clear testimony of faith in Christ
  • Regular and consistent fellowship with a local assembly / church
  • References t hat attest to your faith and practice (Prefer elders)
  • A desire to serve the Lord and a love for children
  • FBI / DCF (Division of Children and Families) Background Clearance
JUNIOR STAFF (AGE 15 / Entering grade 10)
Required: Training Camp + Two Weeks (three total)
Service: Limited Roles (Kitchen, etc)
 
HIGH SCHOOL STAFF (Age: 16-18 / Entering grades 11-12)
Required: Training Camp + Two Weeks (three total)
Service: Rotation through multiple roles.

COLLEGIAN STAFF (Age 18-22 / Entering or attending college)
Required: Training Camp (new collegians)
Expected: Three Weeks + Training (four total)
Service: Rotation through multiple roles
 
ADULTS (Age 23-99)
May serve a single week or all summer.
NEW IN 2018 - WE NEED SOUTH FLORIDA VAN DRIVERS.
 
STAFFING LIMITS
Once we have a complete staff for each week of camp, all other applicants will be placed on HOLD STATUS.
In general - the first to complete the application process (not just apply - but complete everything) are given priority.  Adults with bunny campers will be accepted only if there is a need for their particular role.

EVERYONE THAT HAS CAMPER CONTACT AND/OR STAYS OVERNIGHT DURING THE SUMMER PROGRAM MUST BE SCREENED THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS.  THEREFORE - WE CANNOT ALLOW OVERNIGHT GUESTS WHILE CAMP IS IN SESSION.  IF YOU WANT TO SERVE - EVEN AS A "WEEKEND WARRIOR" YOU MUST COMPLETE A STAFF APPLICATION AND COMPLETE BACKROUND SCREENING.

BUNNY CAMPERS
Bunny campers are children of adult staff that are too young for staff and not camper age for the week of service. Bunny campers may not be "staff age" (14+). If they are staff age, they must apply, be screened, and attend Training Camp. NOTE: Age exception (14) is for children of adult staff.

If you are not a Director, Speaker, or Nurse you should schedule your service for weeks when your children are campers.  We will fill positions with folks that do not have a bunny camper first.

YOU MUST DECLARE BUNNY CAMPERS WHEN YOU APPLY - PLEASE DO NOT SURPRISE US LATER. 
The best way to do this is via email.  We will register them as Bunny Campers for your week of service (not charge) and then you can complete their camper profile and health forms from the camper dashboard.

You may not bring your own "baby sitter".  NO EXCEPTIONS! 
WHYE? EVERYONE MUST COMPLETE A STAFF APPLICATION & EVERYONE MUST HAVE LEVEL TWO CLEARANCE. Administrative positions (Nurse, Speaker, Director) that get their own room may bring a spouse or relative (grandparent) because they get their own room.  However, that person must complete a staff application with full background screening just like everyone else. NO EXCEPTIONS (really!)

Counselors may not bring a bunny camper.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

GUESTS, VENDORS, AND SPECIAL VOLUNTEERS
Application guidelines are necessary to meet state requirements for screening of Residential Summer Camp volunteers and employees.  This does not apply to guests during registration and time between camps.  There is an exception for volunteers and vendors that do not have direct or unsupervised camper contact. That limit includes a time element that is essentially one day and eliminates you from staying overnight.  There are only a few of these positions used each summer.  NONE OF WHICH ARE OVERNIGHT. In general - if you want to help at summer camp, you need to complete the full application.
